Building a smart home sounds exhausting. There are different hubs, competing protocols, and a lot of wiring involved if you do it the hard way. But we are here for the lazy way.
Start with Smart Plugs
You don't need to replace all your lamps and appliances. Simply buy a pack of smart plugs. Plug your "dumb" lamp into the smart plug, and now you have a smart lamp. It takes 30 seconds.
Focus on the Ecosystem
Pick one ecosystem and stick to it. Whether it's Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, or Amazon Alexa, sticking to one ecosystem means you won't have to juggle 5 different apps on your phone just to turn off the lights.
The "Goodnight" Routine
The highest ROI smart home feature is the "Goodnight" routine. Program a single command that locks the front door, turns off all the lights, and drops the temperature by a few degrees. Never again will you have to get out of a warm bed just to check if you locked the door.
